New Season, Fall sewing

” I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin and crisp sunburnt leaves.” – Unknown

As I sit here typing this, my clock is reading 1:00 p.m on a late August afternoon. I’m in a sweater and drinking apple cider. We typically would already be almost 100 degrees, right now we are at 74 degrees, fall is on its way. So this is the best way to talk about fall sewing with Winter Wear Designs Back to School Blog tour.

back to school

To start things off, I’m going to talk about the Day By Day* dress that I made for Project Run and Play season 16 for Personal Style. This dress has my heart. My daughter saw a similar dress looking through Pinterest and loved it. (I really think she just loved the socks) So mom to the rescue.

To start off with this dress I created facings for the neckline, didn’t want it to feel to heavy as we can have some very warm weather in fall. I also reconstructed the bodice to have the button closure in the front. Self drafted the skirt to have three pleats and it has a hidden seam down the front middle. Hemmed at a Vintage length so she can show off all her knee high socks with this dress.

Now to talk about the Aviator* pants, Oh my word do these look so comfy! I’m just going to have to make me a pair. (also available in women’s) I didn’t do any hacking to these, all I did was eliminate the back pockets as I know the girls don’t even notice they have back pockets. They only care if they have front pockets. I made these with ponte as the main and the accent pieces are from hacci. Waistband and leg bands are made from single brushed poly

The Back to School Bundle* is awesome. It has everything you need to make for a capsule wardrobe. I did try to make my girls clothes as a capsule so they can mix and match these items. I’m so happy that they’re the same size, the only difference is 1″ in height.

I started off with the Phresh Jeggings in a Ponte and just love how they came out I did add elastic to the waistband just to make sure they stay up on my oldest daughter. I know these will be used over and over again in many outfits. Oh and I guess I didn’t get close up views of the pants

The Phresh Jacket is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. My youngest one couldn’t get over the ruffles in the back she was just dancing and twirling away while wearing it. It will be a great layering piece.

All the bells and whistles- wanted a basic shirt for them to wear on many occasions from simple jeans to the aviators also to a skirt.

Tutu Twirl Tunic-  My oldest could not stay still by wearing this while posing. She was saying how amazing the shirt was that she never wanted to take it off. Well younger sister wanted to wear it too. I guess another one is in the works. This was up-cycled from an old sweater of mine that I had in my twenties, didn’t seem to fit in with my wardrobe now.
